What I’m Trying to Get Better At Right Now

I’ve found it useful to occasionally pause and name the things I’m actively working on — not goals, not resolutions, just areas where I know there’s room to improve.

This isn’t a definitive list. It’s simply where my attention is right now.

Listening Without Pre-Planning

I’m trying to listen without simultaneously preparing my response.

Especially in work conversations, it’s easy to jump ahead — to solutions, opinions, or next steps. I’m working on staying with what’s being said a little longer, even when my instinct is to respond quickly.

Understanding usually improves when I slow down.

Writing Less, Saying More Clearly

I write a lot. Sometimes too much.

I’m trying to get better at saying things more clearly with fewer words — in documents, messages, and feedback. Clarity isn’t about volume. It’s about intent landing the first time.

This is harder than it sounds.

Leaving Space Between Things

Back-to-back work has a way of flattening everything.

I’m trying to leave small gaps between meetings and tasks — not to be more productive, but to be more present. Even a few minutes to reset helps me show up better for whatever comes next.

Asking for Help Earlier

I tend to push through uncertainty longer than necessary.

Lately, I’m trying to ask for help or input earlier — before things feel heavy or urgent. Most of the time, that leads to better outcomes and less rework.

Letting Things Be “Good Enough”

Perfection shows up quietly.

I’m working on recognizing when something is good enough to move forward — a draft, a decision, a response — instead of polishing endlessly. Progress often matters more than refinement.

Staying Curious Under Pressure

When things get busy, curiosity is usually the first thing to go.

I’m trying to hold onto it anyway — especially when timelines are tight or stakes feel high. Curiosity keeps conversations open and decisions flexible.

A small closing thought

None of these feel complete.
And that’s okay.

These are simply the edges I’m working on right now — knowing they’ll shift with time, context, and experience.

Writing them down helps me notice them.
